Piriform’s Speccy is a nifty little system information utility. Its mission is to collect and display more-detailed information about your hardware and its performance than is offered by Windows, even the latest versions. It shows the brand, model, version, driver, file, location, capacity, operating condition, and other data about your system’s CPU, motherboard, RAM, graphics card, disk drives, optical drives, audio, peripherals, network, and operating system. It even displays the temperature of compatible hardware.

Remove the Speedy SystemCare PUP

Speedy SystemCare PUP is a potentially unwanted program that states it scans Windows for Malware/Pup Threats, ways to Enhance System Performance, System/User Software Related issues, and Startup/Uninstall and User Items. When Speedy SystemCare scans a computer it will list a variety of detected issues, but state that you need to first purchase a license before you can fix them. The concern is that many of the issues that it detects are not what I feel would cause a problem on a computer.

Rogue Programs & Scareware

A Rogue Program is a program that pretends to be a legitimate programs, but instead displays false information in order to trick or scare you into purchasing it. Most Rogue programs state that they are legitimate applications, but are typically clones of other lackluster products repackaged under new names and graphics. Most Rogue programs also use highly aggressive sales tactics which include adware, Trojans that display fake security alerts, or claims that they have won awards from major publications and companies. What it all boils down to, though, is that these types of programs are either deliberately deceptive or displaying numerous false positives in order to convince you to purchase their software. This is because the single most important thing to the creators of Rogue software, is to sell as many copies as they can. That means that the people, or affiliates, who are selling this software can do so by any means. This ultimately leads to deceptive advertising and the use of malware to sell the software.

Windows KB4480960 + KB4480970 Updates Causing Network and License Problems

On January 8th, Microsoft released the KB4480960 and KB4480970 updates for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, which have been causing networking and licensing havok for users and organizations that have installed them.
